Born in Australia in 1961 Alastair has long held a fascination with motorsport, first ignited with visions of touring cars thundering around the Bathurst road circuit in 1969 and regular boyhood visits to local speedway and short track sedan racing.
Fuelled by technical and advertising graphics in car magazines, he spent much of his time producing artwork of this subject alongside studying Architecture at the University of Queensland. Attending national events opened the door to receiving commissions from drivers and teams, and producing editorial content for magazines.
Alastair moved to the UK in 1988 working for a London firm of architects and took every opportunity to visit Grands Prix and LeMans, becoming involved with the British Touring Car series producing graphic and illustration work in the form of team merchandise, livery design, pit banner decoration, as well as further editorial work for several motoring magazines.
He has received commissions from suppliers in the motorsport industry including a multiple year stint for an Italian wheel manufacturer producing high end calendars distributed worldwide. His artwork has also been the subject of event programmes and limited edition prints on behalf of a motoring themed charity raising money for children.
Architectural illustration and presentation work has continued alongside abstract painting, and is having an influence on Alastair's motorsport art, where a keen technical interest combines with expressions of movement and texture in conveying the presence of complex machines.
