RAC Exhibition

27th January - 24th February 2023

The Guild of Motoring Artists (GMA) was established in 1986 as a group of professional and semi-professional artists, who shared a common interest in automotive art. Over the years it has attracted some of the best and diverse worldwide automotive artists through its selective membership, exhibiting around the UK with invitational exhibitions in the USA.

Our exhibition at the RAC Club features work from 12 of our members with 34 displayed works in a variety of media and styles. You'll find work from

Heidi Mraz - the official poster artist for the Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance and Art in Motion Concours in

New York, Heidi has also been commissioned to paint the winning cars of the Amelia Island and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Stefan Johansson – Following 30 years racing at the highest level including 10 years in Formula 1, driving for teams such as Ferrari and McLaren as well as winning the Le Mans 24 hour race for Porsche. 34 years later he now spends the same time and focus to perfect the craft of being an artist, creating new paintings from his studio in Santa Monica, California.

Ella Freire - a London artist and silk screen printer, successfully exhibiting at Salon Prive, The London Concours and the RAC Club, Ella is now currently working on a series of commissions for private car collectors.

Anna-Louise Felstead - Following a trip to Monaco during the Grand Prix Historique in 2008 where she painted her first ever racing car she's never looked back. She's internationally known painting historic and modern racing cars. Anna-Louise continues to travel the world attending events such as Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Villa d'Este, Salon Prive, Le Mans and Monaco Grand Prix Historique.

Richard Wheatland - GMA founding member who is also a member of the Guild of Aviation Artists (GAvA). Richard specialises in Brooklands related paintings, but has also covered numerous historic and contemporary motoring scenes exhibiting and selling throughout the UK and around the world.

Stuart Booth - A leading member of the Guild for many years, Stuart’s motor racing oil paintings have been exhibited in galleries throughout the UK and at the Silverstone Classic, Goodwood Festival & Revival plus the BRDC member’s marquee at the British Grand Prix.  With sales throughout the UK and across the world, Stuart also has a passion for rail and maritime art.

Sean Wales - With a Fine Art Diploma and studying Visual Arts Sean is a key member of the Guild Committee. He’s worked on murals in a German shopping complex, worked at a number of sporting venues in the UK including Newmarket Race Course, Chelsea Football Club, Rockingham Motor Speedway and Silverstone Circuit (where he was Deputy General Manager of Silverstone Hospitality). Sean started to paint portraits of winning Formula 1 drivers. The large pieces painted in acrylic proved popular amongst the fans and have become a firm staple of his portfolio. Now moving into different media such as felt tips and inks Sean has become more prolific than ever.

David Purvis - Former GMA Chairman and current Administrator, David’s been a member for 25 years having exhibited with them in the USA, and throughout the UK. A prolific artist with many motoring themed commissions, also a successful local artist producing scenes around where he lives.  David has donated his images to illustrate the Lions charity town calendars that he has produced for a number of years. He is also Gallery Manager of a local gallery.

Richard Neergaard - GMA Chairman since October and with a clear vision for the future of the Guild.

Amazing, impactful art can stop an audience in its tracks - but there must be beauty, not just shock or a dramatic statement. It’s Richard’s goal to create this in his unique automotive art.

To achieve both curiosity and beauty for the audience, he integrates original pieces from famous race cars, exotics, and classic cars.  These pieces give meaning and a sense of history while the rest of the art provides an unusual framework.  Most are made with aluminium panels which are laser cut, CNC bent and anodised.  A high quality photo is then laminated, computer calculated and plodder cut to fit exactly on the panels and screwed into an acrylic gloss back panel.

Richard has works in the British Motor Museum, the Los Angeles Driving Museum, the Jaguar Heritage Trust museum, the Williams F1 museum, Alfa Romeo F1, McLaren F1 and Williams F1 headquarters and exhibited at the Royal Automobile Club in London, Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace and sold at Bonhams Aston Martin Classics auction.

David Ginn - Founding member and former GMA Chairman David has been practicing art all his life being largely self-taught. Throughout the 1980’s David set up his own successful commercial art studio, which included producing a huge variety of art and design related projects. Since then David has worked in the automotive design and product development sector, with Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin.

He remains a prolific artist covering a wide range of subject matters.

Brian Casey - With more than 30 years’ experience as a self-taught Fine Art Motoring and Motorsport Illustrator, Brian’s intricate works are produced using graphite/coloured pencils and watercolours. Motorsport has been a passion of mine since growing up within earshot of the famous Crystal Palace Road Circuit. Brian is also a full member of the Coloured Pencil Society.

Gary Speak - Gary lives in Western Australian as an illustrator/artist who has worked in the advertising industry both in Australia and the UK and has been awarded for his work locally and nationally many times during his career.

He has had a life-long love of motorsport and has competed in Motocross and Formula Ford. He has passionately followed Formula One his entire life.

Combining the two passions of art and motorsport has led him to produce a series of fine art photo-real paintings that capture the realism and drama of Formula One throughout the ages.

Our objective is to become the one stop for quality creative automotive art.

So whether your taste is for traditional compositions, tight representational illustration, loose and wild, abstract, digital vector or 3D sculpture and multi-media, you are sure to find a style that’s right for you within the guild’s membership portfolio.

 GMA exhibitions 2017

Ford Dunton 50th Anniversary
& GMA exhibition:

15th - 23rd June 2017

The GMA art show was extremely popular and well received by all who saw. Although we had many marque and models represented by all the artists, we had a very high proportion of Ford related art as well which mostly covered the last 50 years, which was excellent and showed the diversity of styles and mediums of our artists within the In the GMA show.

The GMA exhibition itself, sold some 20 pictures from originals to limited edition prints from some 14 different artists on show. So 70% of the artist supporting sold. A truly exceptionally successful art show for the GMA
