Hailing from the Northeast of Scotland Ian has had a flair for art and a passion for motorcycles from as long as he can remember. Starting his working career in the automotive industry as a paint sprayer gave him an insight into paint preparation and painting skills. Applying these skills to motorcycles and helmets he was able to develop his artistic skills in the form of custom painting. Wanting to hone his skills further, he enrolled in a part-time course which led to achieving an HNC in Graphic Design. This in turn gave Ian the confidence to try out his skills on canvas. As motorcycles is his passion, this has been his main subject matter, though not restricted to it. Describing Ian’s work, it would be classed as photo realistic, where he captures a close up of the subject, working in images as reflections to make the painting tell a story.
Ian has not made art his full-time occupation, preferring to keep it as a hobby and on a semi-professional level. Now newly retired, most of his career was spent in aviation following the six years he served in the RAF. He does sell limited edition prints of his work and loves the challenge of taking on a commission when they come his way. A couple of his latest projects have been taking part in the Wild in Art trails for Clan Cancer Support round the North East of Scotland, which has led to enhancing his skills further.
Ian’s work has been featured in magazines, exhibited and won various awards.
