I have been drawing and painting motorbikes and cars now since my early teenage years. My love of cars, motorbikes and all forms of motorsport were the catalyst to becoming an automotive artist and photographer, having completed my first commission when I was only fifteen years old.
Qualifying as an illustrator in 2001, I knew that I wanted to start my own business specialising in photo-realistic, automotive art. It wasn’t until 2006 that I received the financial support that I needed, from the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust. Having been commissioned by World Superbike Team Foggy Petronas Racing in 2004, and proving my artistic ability, PSYBT helped me with a loan and grant to purchase a camera, and other equipment to get my business rolling. Not long after I set up, i was commissioned by British Superbike Team Crescent Rizla Suzuki to produce a painting of Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, to celebrate his and the team’s race 2 win at Knockhill in 2006.
In 2007 i was appointed a member of The Guild of Motoring Artists, and became the official artist for Formula One Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, to produce a painting depicting Fernando Alonso leading Lewis Hamilton to a 1-2 victory in Monaco, the teams 150th Grand Prix win. I also began work with 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae, and met the great man himself at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, before his tragic and untimely death in September 2007.
My love of photography also allowed me the opportunity to take photos of people indulging in their passion for track days. As a motorsport enthusiast, what could be better than spending a day watching other enthusiasts ragging their cars around Knockhill? Well probably racing a car myself, but to be by the side of a track, taking photographs of some amazing cars is still hard to beat!
I have worked with many great names in motorsport, met some of the best racers the world has to offer, as well as completing countless private commissions, and consider myself to have been very privileged to work for and meet the people I have.
